Ophthalmology Fellowship Match

The Ophthalmology Fellowship Match (OFMP) was established in 1985. Its goal is to coordinate fellowship appointments, thus relieving the pressure of uncoordinated appointments and forced early choices. The participating programs will not make any appointments until the match has been completed.

Sponsorship

The Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO) sponsors the matching process and is responsible for enforcement of applicable rules. The Matching office does not sponsor or approve any of the participating programs. The function of the Matching Program is strictly limited to processing of the match. Listing or not listing of any program in the directory does not imply any form of approval, disapproval or endorsement.

About the Match

The Match takes place in December and will be used to process all applicants who want to start their fellowship training in July of the following year. There is $299 non-refundable registration fee that covers registration, central application service (for participating subspecialties) and matching. To register for the Match, click on "Login/Register" button on the left-hand side menu. Once registered you will gain access to view the Program Directory and make your program selections. A Centralized Application Service (CAS) is available and it is mandatory for applicants and programs. Browse through the links under "Central Application" to learn more.

Centralized Application Service is available for all Ophthalmology Fellowship subspecialties except for Neuro-Ophthalmology and Pathology. Applicants applying for Neuro-Ophthalmology and Pathology subspecialties must register for the Match and contact programs directly to obtain application materials and procedures. Canadian programs are not required to utilize the CAS system. Applicants should check directly with the specific program directors for application requirements before applying through the CAS system.

Please note that oculo-plastic programs in this match are not members of ASOPRS. Applicants who are interested in ASOPRS programs, should register for the Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Match.
